Mary Abplanalp, an English and History teacher at Bird Middle School in Walpole, was recognized by sixth grade student Emma Webb at the Barnes & Noble “My Favorite Teacher” contest.
The Barnes & Noble “My Favorite Teacher” program provides middle and high school students the opportunity to tell their communities how much they appreciate their teachers. Emma nominated Mrs. Abplanalp by writing a poem about how her teacher has influenced her life and why she is appreciated and admired. Her poem was judged on the “compelling nature of the teacher’s qualities, the sincerity of the student’s appreciation and the quality of expression and writing.”
Emma and Abplanalp received a recognition award for the poem at the event at Barnes & Noble in Walpole on the evening of April 13. Representatives of Walpole, Norwood and Montrose schools were in attendance.
