Last month, the potters from Potters Place of Walpole raised $1,800 to benefit a Foxboro based non-profit organization created to raise awareness and funds to support 2.5 million homeless children in America.

Nearly 200 vases and other one-of-a-kind pottery pieces were created and sold as part of their recent Spring Show and Sale.

Founder of kettlebells4kids, Amie Owens enlisted athletes from CrossFit Torque of Foxboro and committed to doing one kettlebell swing for every dollar raised during the event.

On Monday, June 13, co-chair of the Spring Show & Sale, Jeanne Capachin presented Amie with the generous donation and joined in as the local athletes completed all 1,800 swings in just 18 minutes.

CrossFit Torque’s owner and head coach, Amanda Chace commented, “supporting our members is something that comes naturally here at CrossFit Torque. When Amie asked us to join her in the kettlebell swing challenge, our members were ready to get swinging!”

kettlebells4kids is a non-profit organization that was created to educate the American public about the growing issue of child homelessness in our country.

“We are on a mission to bring the power of fitness to homeless children living in shelters across the country. In Massachusetts alone, there are an estimated 31,000 children living without a place to call home,” said Owens, who is also a potter at Potters Place. “This has been the perfect example of what happens when generous and kind people in our own communities come together for a common cause.

Owens continued, “We believe building strong, confident children today can create healthy and successful communities tomorrow.”

Potters Place, a not-for-profit pottery studio with over 20 artists from Walpole and several neighboring towns, has been in existence for more than 36 years and continues a tradition of choosing one local charity to be a beneficiary of its twice-yearly Show and Sale event in May and November.
