[ccfic caption-text format="plaintext"]

The Walpole Police Department will be hosting a training session on the use of Narcan and a CPR training class on June 22 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. at the Walpole Public Library. The Narcan training session will run from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m., and the CPR training session will run from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

The training session will teach those in attendance how to use and administer the opiate antagonist-reversal drug Naloxone (Narcan). After Walpole police officers began carrying Narcan, the drug has been used over 50 times to save people from drug overdoses in Walpole.

The training session will include a presentation on the overdose problem by Walpole Police Chief John Carmichael and Det. Tim Songin. Walpole Police officers Hazeldine and Foley will provide training in the administration of nasal Naloxone. Officer Hazledine will also provide optional training in rescue breathing and CPR. Those who attend will be given information about resources at the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services and Drop-In Centers.

Those who attend the training session will receive a dose supply of nasal Naloxone, supplied by Betro’s Pharmacy.

No family is immune to the addiction problem, and the Walpole Police Department hopes that this program will help families of those who may be suffering from substance use disorders by offering training and information.

To register, contact the Walpole Police Department by email at police@walpolepd.com, or call the department at 508-668-1095 and ask for officers Hazeldine, Foley, Songin or Chief Carmichael. Space is limited, and Walpole residents will take precedence.
