You always know something exceptionally great is happening at Walpole Public Library (WPL) when it’s a bit challenging to find a parking spot. This was the case on Wednesday, July 12th, and almost immediately upon entering the library you could see what all the fuss was about: a large crowd of both adults and children were gathered in the community room, listening attentively as Bob Lisaius, AKA Dinoman, took them on a exciting trip through the Mesozoic Era.
The show, which lasted about 35 minutes and concluded with a meet-and-greet with giant, hand-sewn inflatable dinosaurs, was an entertaining mix of science, magic and humor. Lisaius kept all audience members attentive by combining interesting facts (did you know that the T-Rex’s arms evolved to be so stubby to maintain their bipedal posture? This allowed them to move quickly to catch prey) with fossils and fun. There was even a feisty “pet” (stuffed) raccoon named Rocco on the loose!
As grown-ups and children explored and posed for photos with the inflatable dinosaurs, Lisaius answered questions and chatted with the kids. When asked if he really hand-sewed the giant dinos, he replied with a laugh. “I did,” he confirmed. “When I saw the price from a company that makes them, I thought: I can do this myself. So I did!”
This was the Dinoman’s first appearance at the library since before the pandemic, but, judging by the crowd, probably not his last! Walpole locals were lucky that Dinoman’s tracks lead right to the WPL as all of the attendees enjoyed this insightful and delightful trip through the Mesozoic Era.
