The Walpole High Dance Company presented its dance performance, called “Rabbit Hole,” on April 1 and April 2 at Walpole High.
The performances featured an array of songs and dances highlighting contemporary dance. From multi-layered mixes of classical music to voice-overs and sound effects, the show featured a number of unique musical tracks.
As for the dances, they were varied as well. Because the dance numbers reflected a more contemporary style, they were not what audiences typically imagine when they attend a high school dance show.
Richard Kim, a Walpole High dance instructor who directed the performances, noted he was happy to see large crowds turn out for the show.
“Friday night was sold out,” Kim said. “We actually had people pull in chairs and stand across the back wall so they could view the show. Saturday was almost sold out.”
Selling out Friday’s show was especially important to Kim, as he noticed the crowds were not just made up of people interested in dance and their families, but also featured many people who just wanted to see the show.
“My favorite part of the performances was seeing such a dynamic range of people coming to see our show,” Kim said. “The arts reach out to everyone and it was nice to see that the audience wasn't just people who are dancers or just high school students.”
This year’s performance was inspired by the “rabbit hole” from Alice in Wonderland. Many of the dances featured in the show were designed to reflect the mysterious, and intriguing rabbit hole from “Alice in Wonderland.”
