Predicted storms subsided on Saturday morning just in time for weekly vendors to gather their cherished goods to offer at the local Farmer’s Market. Located at Spring Brook Park, the Walpole Farmer’s Market is a perfect morning getaway to discover local creations and shop for some of the freshest fruits and vegetables.
Vendor and harvester Patti, from Patti’s Patch in Middleboro, travels to Walpole every week to share her freshly harvested goods. Picked in the early hours of the morning, Patti prepares baskets full of vegetables and fruits. Alongside her crops, she teams with two other local farms in the area and presents a vast collection to the town. She gave insight on what fruits and vegetables have been in season, and what to expect in the hot month of August.
“Blueberries are out now; strawberries are coming to the end of their season. We will be having apples in a couple of weeks, as for vegetables, cucumbers, corn, carrots, squash, and zucchini. Keep an eye out for tomatoes in a couple of weeks,” said Patti.
Patti has been harvesting for 18 years, and she has loved every second of her time going to farmer’s markets.
“I’ve been doing this for 18 years; I’ve been at the Walpole farmer’s market since Covid. I used to have a market at my house although since Covid there were many rules and restrictions. I ended up coming here, I enjoy the people up here, it’s a very nice market it’s a lot of fun,” said Patti.
Although, Walpole’s farmer’s market has more to offer than just fruits and vegetables. From live music to a variety of unique pop-ups with creations displayed to catch on-goers attention, the farmer’s market is perfect for everyone.
“My favorite part is people coming by and checking things out I get good feedback. It is so nice to hear their reactions to my work. Covid allowed me to build enough inventory, I realized I could actually do this. The farmer’s market has motivated me to do more, now that things are going out and I’m making new stuff that’s coming back in. It’s one of those things where a lot of people were encouraging me to sell online, but to me, I really wanted to meet the people who were buying my product. It is really lovely, I could have a day where I don’t make a single cent but it's great to talk to people about things they love and make new friends,” said Liana Cosgrove, a local vendor, who was more than pleased to display her works and chat with local guests.
Check out the next farmer’s market on Saturday, July 22nd! It is open from 9 am to 1 pm until October 21st.
