The Walpole Cub Scouts Pack 44 recently had an event to help keep used shoes out of landfills and help support the pack at the same time. The Cub Scouts put together a flyer announcing the details. The flyers were put up in the Walpole Library, Stop and Shop and on a few town Facebook Groups. A bin was placed just outside the Union Congregational Church in East Walpole. The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive. The bin was filled multiple times and in the end, the Cub Scouts managed to keep 238 pairs of shoes out of landfills. The shoes will be sent to a company called GotSneakers where the shoes will be evaluated and the Cub Scouts will earn between $0 and $7 per pair depending on condition. GotSneakers will sell what they can in secondhand markets and what can't be sold will be recycled. According to the GotSneakers website, the 238 pairs of sneakers saves 7140 pounds of CO2e averted and 537,166 gallons saved.
