Opioid forum to be held in Walpole on February 17

A forum on opioid addiction in Walpole will be held on February 17 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the Walpole Public Library.

Several guest speakers will cover multiple areas of the issue of opioid addiction and how the problem, which has spread throughout New England, affects Walpole.

Walpole Police Chief John Carmichael will discuss the impact of the addiction problem in Walpole, and will highlight what the town’s police department is doing to address the problem.

Two local healthcare providers will also discuss the public health side of the problem.

Tim Hempton, DDS will give a presentation and highlight his personal experiences with the opioid problem, and will discuss options for safer drug prescribing practices.

Julie Hempton, PA will discuss the physiology of addiction, including biological, environmental and developmental health issues associated with addiction.

Robin Chapell, from the Walpole Coalition on Drug and Alcohol Awareness will highlight the work the Coalition does in Walpole to raise awareness of drug abuse.
