On Saturday, September 30, Walpole residents ushered in the first day of autumn with a cherished tradition: the Apple Harvest Fair. This several decades old celebration draws thousands of attendees from Walpole and the surrounding areas. Despite the gloomy weather, several families bravely embraced the damp conditions to fully experience the offerings of the Apple Harvest Fair.
The Union Congregational Church of Walpole hosted the event on the grounds of Bird Park. Fortunately, the vendors were well-prepared for the rainy day, with both indoor and outdoor setups. Guests also came equipped for inclement weather, donning raincoats, rain boots, and carrying umbrellas.
Upon arrival, families were welcomed by trackless train rides that entertained attendees of all ages. Pony rides, a petting zoo, glitter tattoos, crafts, a bounce house, and various fair games, including Magic Door hosted by Midway Games, provided ample entertainment for the children in attendance. Meanwhile, adults had the opportunity to explore vendor stalls and savor delicious baked goods, such as the renowned Apple Harvest Fair apple crisps.
Live musical entertainment was provided by Band Together, brightening the spirits of everyone traversing the fairgrounds.
Each year, the UCC organizes this fair to support the church's Christian Outreach initiatives, including The Walpole Food Pantry, St. Paul's Lunch Program in Brockton, Boston City Mission Society, Seafarer's Friend in the Port of Boston, and various other projects. This event not only brings the community together but also lends a helping hand to those in need. It offers guests a delightful taste of the autumnal season while contributing to the spirit of giving.
Judging by the smiles on the faces of all who spent their day at the fair, it's safe to say that guests are eagerly anticipating next year's Apple Fall Harvest Fair.
