The Walpole Historical Commission & the Walpole Historical Society will present a free PowerPoint presentation featuring the Barns of Walpole on Thursday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Walpole Library.
The Walpole Historical Commission is conducting a survey of the current barns of Walpole. The presentation will verify how many barns currently exist, what condition they are in, and how they are currently being used. George Ransom has put together an introduction to barns in general and started a “drive-by” photo collection of the identified barns in town.
Barns have been part of the American landscape since colonial times. Over time, barns have evolved to meet the needs of farming communities. Many of these historic and iconic buildings were and are an integral part of life as it evolved in Walpole. Barns have been identified as “American Icons,” with family farms forming the bedrock of our cultural values and American way of life.
The presentation will feature many original street-scape photos of the current identified barns of Walpole. Last year, George Ransom developed a Bradford Lewis and Plimptonville PowerPoint presentation. In prior years, with Walpole Cable, he developed video histories of Calvin Plimpton, Plimptonville, and The Plimpton Iron Works.
There is no charge for admission.
