On Wednesday evening, local young speedsters from Westwood, Canton, Norwood, Braintree, Brockton, and Quincy met at the track at Westwood High School for the final summer youth track club meet of the 2017 season.

Of the many events which took place, maybe none were more competitive and exciting then the 50-yard dashes, as racers and parents alike surrounded the track and cheered on their fellow teammates and competition. The first 50-yard dash of the night featured boys aged 3-4, and Westwood’s Reed Benger took home first place, while James Theaumont placed third, Harrison Bohm fourth, Kyle Martin fifth, Dylan French sixth, and Charlie Gallor seventh.

Assistant coach of Westwood Youth Track Club Lucie Duffy says that this event, held at Westwood High School every summer, is one that many people in the town look forward to, and that it allows kids a fun, competitive, and friendly social experience.

“It’s definitely the most important summer track event in Westwood,” said Duffy. “You’re missing out if you aren’t here. It gives kids a fun way to be social and get their legs stronger.”

As the night wore on, and more and more races took place - such as the mile and the 100-yard dash - excitement and competitiveness grew amongst the competitors. As the night ended, the racers left having accomplished an immense amount, ending the season on a positive note.

At the time of print, the Westwood Youth Track club will meet one more time on August 16 for a final goodbye party at WHS.
