Westwood and Medfield High School field hockey met on the rain-soaked turf of Fisher Memorial Field on Friday afternoon for the second and final time this season.

The Wolverines (14-0-1, 8-0-1) rolled into Medfield still unbeaten and looked to complete the season sweep of the Warriors (2-9-2, 1-7-2) after a 5-0 victory at Flahive Field back on September 18. Medfield, meanwhile, debuted their new pink breast cancer awareness uniforms and looked to play the role of spoiler in Westwood’s hopes of an unbeaten season.

Unfortunately for Medfield, a fast start by the Wolverines was too much to overcome. Westwood potted three goals in a span of 2:59, with the first coming from sophomore Lindsey Diomede after she tipped home a shot on a penalty corner try by Hannah Blomquist with 28:33 remaining in the first half. Less than two minutes later, Elizabeth Watson doubled the lead to 2-0 by tipping home a shot on a penalty corner by Kendall Blomquist. Junior Abigail Crowley made it a 3-0 game with 25:22 to play by hammering home a loose ball at the net mouth.

Freshman Ashley Malmquist responded for Medfield 1:24 following the 3-0 goal by Crowley, streaking in on a fast break and firing a shot that was initially saved, but stung home on the rebound to make it a 3-1 game with 23:56 to play. Westwood called a timeout following the strike by Malmquist to settle things down. The Wolverines were able to prevent any further damage and carried their two-goal lead into halftime.

Kendall Blomquist potted her second of the game to make it 4-1 early in the second half. Hannah Blomquist hammered the nail into the coffin moments later to make it a 5-1 game, and Westwood would cruise to the four-goal victory to remain unbeaten.

At the time of print, Westwood gets set for a massive showdown with Dover-Sherborn (10-1-1, 8-0-0) on October 16. Meanwhile, Medfield will look to rebound on October 18 at Norwood.
