After picking up their first state title win since 2002 last season, the Westwood High boys’ hockey team fell to North Quincy in the first round of the Division 2 South playoffs 2-1 in OT.

The game got off to a slow start as both teams remained scoreless through the first two periods.

That all changed in the opening minutes of the third period, as freshman Jake Murphy scored the Wolverines’ lone goal of the night. But a quick goal from North Quincy a few minutes later led to a 1-1 tie.

With the score still tied at the end of regulation, the Wolverines and the Raiders faced off in a five-on-five sudden death overtime period. With no victor after the first overtime period, the game went into a second, four-on-four overtime period.

Shortly into the second overtime period, North Quincy scored the game-winning goal.

The Wolverines closed the season with a record of 12-5-4.
