The Babson College men’s lacrosse team took to MacDowell Field for the first time this season on Wednesday afternoon as the Beavers (1-0, 0-0) hosted Roger Williams.
Behind a six-point afternoon from senior attack-man Owen Allen (four goals, two assists), the Beavers (1-0, 0-0) started 2020 on the right note by rolling their way to a 13-1 victory. Junior attack-man John Calicchio and junior midfielder Lee Sipes each potted a pair of goals for the Beavers, while senior midfielder Matt MacCune also pitched in a goal and two helpers. Medfield native and Bryant transfer Tom Schofield forced a turnover and picked up a ground-ball in his Babson debut.
Junior attack/mid Alex Lesher fired home a left-handed step-down less than three minutes in to give the Beavers an early 1-0 lead. Sipes doubled the lead to 2-0 late in the quarter with a right-handed rip on the run before Jude Marzec cut the deficit to 2-1 for Roger Williams on the man-up early in the second. From there, it was all Owen Allen. The senior made it a 3-1 game with a nice cut and dodge from X and finish down low before setting up goals to MacCune and junior midfielder Quinn Schomp. Babson took a 5-1 lead into halftime.Allen’s second of the contest, early in the third, was followed up by a nice little shake-and-rip by Calacchio. The lead grew to 7-1 in favor of the Beavers. Allen completed the hat trick with 1:43 to play in the third on a dump-in at the net-mouth off a feed from Will Messner to push the lead to 8-1 at the end of three.
The fourth quarter saw more of the same from Allen, who scored just 1:27 in on the man-up to make it a 9-1 game. Calacchio potted home his second moments later before freshman Chi Chi Price scored his first collegiate goal with a beautiful dodge and finish off-stick side high to make it a 10-goal game. Sipes rifled home a man-up goal with 5:04 to play before Kellan Page finished off the scoring barrage on an unassisted tally with 0:52 to play. Babson came away with the 13-1 win.
Babson lacrosse will return to action on February 29 when the Beavers host Union.
