Wellesley teen Abby Lothian competed along with thousands of top young athletes from around the nation in the AAU National Junior Olympics in Greensboro North Carolina last week.
Abby took a strong third during her qualifying heat with a time of 13.25. Although she did not advance to the finals this year, she was ranked in the top 80 athletes nationwide in the 14-year-old 100 meter dash.
Over 13,000 athletes participated in the event. Abby’s road to the Junior Olympics started in June by first qualifying in the AAU district event in New Haven and then placing first in the AAU Northeast US Region One meet in Queens, NY. Abby says she is looking forward to some time off from training now, but is excited about joining the Wellesley High School track team in the fall, where she hopes to compete in the 100 meter, 200 meter and possibly the long jump.
