Walpole excels on ice, court

Walpole High School winter athletics continued on this past week as several varsity athletic teams returned to action for the first time in a week and a half following a brief COVID pause.

  • Boys hockey played three games in four nights from February 3-6. The Walpole boys skated to a 1-1 tie with Natick on February 3, followed by a 2-2 tie with Weymouth the following night. On February 6, forward Jason Finklestein and goaltender Jack Curran led Walpole to a 1-0 win at Natick. The shutout was Curran's fourth of the season. The win at Natick improved Walpole's record to 5-1-2.
  • Girls basketball earned a big 55-40 win against Natick on February 6. Chinenye Odenigbo led the way with a game-high 21 points. Brooke Walonis also scored eight points in the winning effort.
  • Boys basketball picked up a big 63-44 victory against Natick on February 2. Senior captain Jack Connell led the way with a game-high 20 points. The Walpole boys dropped the rematch at Natick on February 5 in overtime, 64-56.
  • Girls hockey dropped a 5-3 contest to Natick on February 3. Senior captain and forward Katie Meehan, senior forward Elizabeth DeSimone and sophomore defenseman Lucy Verderber supplied the scoring for Walpole.
