The Walpole High School girls’ golf team, the defending Division 1 South champions, kicked off their 2025 season with a commanding 5.5–0.5 victory over Brookline on Thursday, April 3, at Walpole Country Club.
Now in their sixth year as a program, the Timberwolves are coming off a historic 13-1 season in which they edged Barnstable by a single stroke to claim the MIAA Division 1 South title before tying for third at states.
Under second-year head coach Vivian Kolovos—a member at Walpole and Wianno Country Clubs—the team maintains a relaxed yet focused atmosphere. Leadership comes from senior captains Kaitlyn Timility and Caroline Chase, along with junior captain Tori Adams.
With 14 players in the program, including eight juniors, Walpole’s depth was on full display against Brookline. In high school best-ball matches, eight golfers compete head-to-head, earning one point per hole won. The top six individual results determine the team outcome, with the seventh and eighth golfers serving as tiebreakers if needed—a scenario Walpole avoided Thursday. Seven of eight Rebels won their matches, with one ending in a tie.
Adams set the tone early, crushing a long drive on the 293-yard first hole to set up a short chip over a 100-yard water hazard. The team never looked back, closing out most matches by the seventh hole thanks to consistent driving, sharp approach shots, and clutch putting.
Juniors Juliet Massey, Gretchen Connelly, and Adrianna Shaughnessy, sophomore Madelynne McCarthy, and freshman Deanna Nosal rounded out the lineup.
Despite morning rain, Walpole Country Club’s conditions were pristine, with lush fairways, manageable rough, and smooth-rolling greens.
The win highlights the continued growth of girls’ golf in Massachusetts—Brookline’s program boasts 47 players, while Needham has 40.
Walpole’s schedule includes Bay State Conference matchups, a rematch with Brookline at The Country Club, and a meeting with Newton North at Brae Burn. The conference championship will be held at Braintree Country Club, followed by sectionals at Haven Country Club in Boylston.
As last year’s sectional proved, every stroke matters in golf. For the Timberwolves, the quest for another title is underway.
