BostonLax released their 2018 class of All-Americans earlier this week, and a significant portion of the players on this prestigious list hail from Hometown Weekly’s six towns.
From Walpole High, Franklin Pierce-bound close D and senior captain Rob Colburn earned BostonLax All-American status after helping guide the Rebels to a sectional finals appearance for the second straight season.
“Being able to make the All-American list is a huge honor and is something that I am very grateful to have received,” said a humbled Colburn when asked about what the recognition means to him. “To be recognized with some of the top poles in the state is really cool. With that being said, having good teammates and coaches around allow you to elevate your level of play so it wouldn’t be possible without them.”
As for what he’ll remember about playing for Walpole High, Colburn says that playing for his town and for Coach Jason Andalo are memories he’ll take with him forever. “My favorite aspect of playing for Walpole High would definitely be being able to represent the Rebel name and my hometown,” said Colburn. “My favorite aspect of playing for Coach Andalo would be his ability to relate to his players and always have them ready to go and be mentally prepared.”
After helping lead Dover-Sherborn to the Division III Central/East sectional title with 14 goals and seven assists in DS’s final four playoff games, Sacred Heart-bound attack-man Jack Dillon was named an All-American. Dover’s Andrew Johnson of Noble & Greenough was also named BostonLax All-American.
From Medfield, St. Sebastian’s midfielder Matt DeSisto earned the honor of All-American after helping lead the Arrows to a 17-2 regular season record and an appearance at the Geico High School Lacrosse National Tournament. Joining DeSisto from Medfield in the All-American ranks is sophomore/rising junior close D John Schofield. Schofield was also named an EMLCA All-American, TVL Defensive Player of the Year, and Boston Herald All-Scholastic.
The largest presence on the BostonLax All-American list out of the seven Hometown Weekly communities comes from Westwood, as St. Sebastian’s goaltender Alex Gainey, LSM/close D Cam Martin, LSM Will Frisoli, and Westwood attack-man Jake Antonucci all made the list.
From Needham, junior attack-man and BU commit Jason Child of Needham High and Maryland-bound midfielder out of St. Sebastian’s, Will Plansky both were named to the BostonLax All-American team.
Out of Wellesley, Harvard-bound attack-man Hayden Cheek of Nobles and Wellesley High leading scorer, overtime hero against Duxbury, and senior captain Michael Bomes also made the list.
