On a crisp fall afternoon, the Walpole turf came alive with action as the field hockey Porkers took to the field against the Wellesley Raiders. This game marked the beginning of a demanding three-game week for the team. The girls embarked on this week with a strong focus on honing their fundamental skills, aiming to build a cohesive and effective team on the field. Their efforts paid off as they clinched a 3-0 victory, adding another triumph to their season record.
The fiery first quarter saw the Porkers seize control, netting two goals early on to claim the lead. Izzy Adams led the charge at 11:44, slipping past the Wellesley defense to launch the ball into the goal, making a resounding impact as it struck the backboard. Walpole continued to dominate possession, capitalizing on precise passes and well-executed plays throughout the game. Less than a minute after Adam's goal, Kate Schneider powered her shot past the Raider's goalkeeper, further extending the Porkers' lead.
Head coach Jen Quinn expressed her satisfaction with the day's outcome, recognizing it as a crucial reset following their previous loss to Uxbridge.
“We just came off a really long week with three games a week, and a tough loss against Uxbridge. Yesterday we were best prepared by just going back to the basics. It was regrouping to come back together and focus on good solid passes and keeping their stick on the ball. These long weeks are a good test for them because it’s a little bit of a taste of what the postseason is like where you keep going and going without much of a break, and the competition gets more challenging,” said Quinn.
In the second quarter, Walpole's relentless action showed no signs of slowing down. With just eight minutes remaining in the quarter, Adams made her way back to the offensive end of the field and managed to secure the final goal of the match, solidifying the Porkers' lead at 3-0. From that moment forward, Walpole maintained their dominance, leveraging their skills to retain possession for the remainder of the game. The crowd erupted with excitement as the girls sealed yet another victory to add to their season's impressive record.
Walpole extended their winning streak throughout the week, overpowering Brookline High with a remarkable 7-0 victory and defeating Lond Meadow High 4-0.
The girls are now gearing up for their upcoming away game against Braintree on Monday, October 16th at 4 p.m., eager to continue their successful season.
