Former Needham High School golf star and two-time state champion Jake Shuman made his PGA Tour debut on Thursday at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Shuman, who played collegiately at Duke University from 2014-2018, placed second in Monday’s qualifier to earn a spot in the event. Recently, Shuman earned a victory at the 2020 Delaware Open, in which the Needham native shot nine-under par (63). Other notable accolades for Shuman include being named the 2013 Mass Golf Junior Player of the Year, as well as currently holding the single-round course record at Taconic Golf Club (64, seven-under par), which he set during the 2016 Mass Amateur Championship.

Shuman, whose home course is Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, shot four-over par (74) during Thursday’s opening round in Greensboro. In Friday’s second round, Shuman rebounded by shooting even-par (70), but it was unfortunately not enough to make the cut (three-under).
