The Needham boys and girls track teams converged on Braintree last week for the annual Bay State Conference track meet.
Among the highlights for Needham:
• Senior Sarah Armstrong won the two mile run with a time of 10:52.71, beating her nearest competition by nearly 47 seconds.
• The girls 4x400 meter relay team triumphed with a first place victory, nearly ten seconds faster than Brookline, the second-place finisher.
• Senior Margie Cullen edged out Milton's Colette O'Leary by just under four tenths of a second for first place in the girls 800 meter run. She ran the race in 2:11.36.
• Sophomore Davonte Burnett took first in the boys 200 meter dash with an impressive time of 22.12 seconds. He mustered a particularly strong effort in the final race, shaving over half a second off of his preliminary time.
• Senior John Benner won the boys two mile run by nearly six seconds with a time of 9:34.36.
• Senior Will Ashenfeller won the boys 400 meter dash with a time of 50.03. He took the crown in a photo finish, beating his nearest competitor by just over a tenth of a second.
• The boys 4x400 meter relay team triumphed by two tenths of a second over Newton North with a time of 43.58.
• Senior Max Lobel won the javelin, trouncing his competition by nearly 15 feet with a distance of 164' 1".
As a team, the Needham boys are 2-1-0 in Bay State Conference competition, good for second behind Newton North in the Carey Division. The Needham girls are 3-1-1 in Conference competition, good for third place behind Newton North and Weymouth.
