Locals excel in Youth Classic Track Meet

Over 400 young track and field athletes from as far away as Las Vegas met over the weekend of July 14-15 to compete in the 28th annual Needham Youth Classic. Sponsored by the Needham Youth Track Club, this meet is the largest open youth track meet in the Northeast and featured 12 running and 8 field events for age 2-14. As part of a meet tradition, all children walked away with an award – ribbon, medal, or trophy. Top finishers shared in the 200 trophies and 1100 medals that were distributed.

Rhode Island’s CLCF Panthers won the team competition with Needham Youth TC 2nd and Metropolis Track Club 3rd.

8-year-old Chase Sullivan led the way with 7 event wins and a meet record. 6-year-old Magnolia Kushner of Needham Youth TC won 6 events and set 2 meet records. 7-year-old Eva Geddes of Needham Youth TC won 4 events.

Superior performances which set meet records included twin distance wins in the 1500 (4:20.81) and 3000 (7:34.76) by Sean Kay of Melrose and an 8.61 50 meter hurdles by Jayden Taylor of Metropolis TC.

(age 7-8) Eva Geddes: 400 Meter, 1:29.91; High Jump, 2’10”; Heptathlon - Jude Teja: 800 Meter, 3:04.34 – Noah Rubin: 1500 Meter, 5:55.26 - Luke LaMacchia: 3000 Meter, 13:56.30 – Eve Umland, Eva Geddes, April Padilla Hrones, Juliet Maldari: 4x100 Meter Relay, 1:22.98
