Coming off of a tough 3-9-5 record a season ago, the Medfield High School varsity field hockey team will look to rebound in 2018 and get back to the state tournament for the first time since 2015.
Leading Medfield into battle this season will be four senior captains: UMass-committed lacrosse star and midfielder Erin Seibel, midfielder Jamie Woods, forward Tatum Samson, and goalie Abbey Simmons.
Seibel says that despite last season’s disappointing results, she and her teammates hold high expectations for themselves, both within and outside of the TVL, and hope to restore a winning tradition to Medfield field hockey this fall.
“We want to be one of the top teams in the TVL,” said Seibel. “We want to make the tournament and just have fun throughout the season, because this is our last go at it as seniors.”
In order to get the positive results they want, Seibel says that translating the hard work that the team put in throughout the offseason, as well as just focusing on taking things one game at a time, will be key aspects of the Lady-Warriors being able to put together a successful season in 2018.
“We are focused on playing one game at a time. We cannot get ahead of ourselves,” said Seibel. “After last season, we are probably being seen as underdogs and this year we want to make a come up.”
As for key dates to circle on the calendar, Medfield will host Holliston for their season and TVL-opener on September 4 before hosting Hopkinton on September 6. Medfield hosts arch rival and 2017 TVL champ Dover-Sherborn on September 24, and will travel down the road for the latter half of their two-game season series with the Lady-Raiders on October 11.
