The Medfield High boys’ basketball beat Holliston on the road 78-71 and wrapped up its regular season by winning the program’s first Tri-Valley League title since 2009.
Coming into the season, Medfield coach Herb Grace knew that his team was among a group of favorites that would be competing for the TVL crown and last week the team achieved its goal and cut down the nets in celebration.
“Winning the TVL title felt great!” said Grace in an email on Monday. “Coaches and players worked real hard this year to accomplish this goal. I’m very proud of the team.”
He added, “I felt if we stayed together and worked real hard that we could have a good shot at it. The guys showed a lot of resiliency throughout the year…All players accepted their roles and supported one another throughout the season.”
Now Medfield will look to bring home a different trophy when it begins the Div. 2 Central tournament on Friday night against TVL rival Hopkinton. Big Blue swept the regular season series with the Hillers, but Grace knows that the records can be thrown out when playoffs start.
“We were able to win those games but they were real close,’ he explained. “We need a good week of practice to get ready. Anything can happen.”
“We’re gonna give it our best shot.”
