Fall I athletics officially came to a close this past week in Medfield. Boys and girls varsity soccer, as well as boys and girls cross-country, all ended their respective seasons on November 15 against Norwood. The only team left with games to play during the week was varsity field hockey; the Warriors hosted Norwood on Tuesday for their season finale.

Entering the game at 0-6-3, Tuesday represented a last chance for the Warriors to get into the win column in 2020. It has been a difficult and frustrating fall for all athletes, coaches and fans due to the obvious impact brought on by COVID-19. Going an entire season winless would only add to the frustration. For Medfield varsity field hockey, this simply was not an option.

Following a scoreless first half, Chloe Shield gave Medfield a 1-0 lead with 7:02 remaining in the third quarter after receiving a feed from Ashley Malmquist and firing home a shot down low. A little over six minutes later, with 1:52 to play in the quarter, Molly Hardiman doubled the lead to 2-0 after smacking home the rebound of an initial shot by Kathryn Blake. Medfield carried their their two-goal lead into the final quarter.

Medfield shut things down in the fourth quarter, preserving the shutout and prevailing by the 2-0 final to earn their first win of the season. Medfield finishes the year with a record of 1-6-3.
