Little League kicks off 72nd season with parade

Medfield Little League kicked off its 72nd year after the April school vacation week as Kindergarten softball through 8th grade baseball played their first games of the season.  The week was capped off with the annual Opening Day Parade on Sunday April 28th.

Players from both the softball and baseball program walked the parade route from Dale Street school through the center of town and onto Metacomet Park.  The Medfield Police and Fire Departments led the parade, blaring their horns and sirens to the amusement of many of the younger players.  Boys and girls from kindergarten to sixth grade marched alongside all three of Medfield’s Select Board Members and the Medfield High School Softball and Baseball team players.

Opening day ceremonies commenced at Metacomet following the parade.  MYBS expressed their thanks and gratitude to the many sponsors, volunteers, coaches and supporters of the program.  Players from the Cardinals and Marlins major's division were introduced, followed by opening day pitches from the captains of both the High School varsity Baseball and Softball teams.  The ceremony concluded with the kindergarten, first grade, and second grade softball players screaming into the microphone, "Play Ball!"
