The Westwood Wolverine girl’s soccer team ended their regular season with a shutout win against the Dedham Marauders. Westwood fought hard the entire game, and played as a well-balanced team, forcing Dedham to play on another level. Westwood proved themselves as a contending team heading into the playoffs.

Junior goalie Alessia Chilangwa was a key player for Westwood, blocking every single shot that Dedham put up against her. The defense around her helped to push Dedham back into their own zone for the majority of play, but Chilangwa was ahead of the ball every moment. Goaltending and defense was the star of this game, keeping Dedham from getting many scoring chances. Senior Captain Harper Marrison was strong on defense, sending the ball into the attacking zone for Westwood. Freshman Erin Gannon scored the first goal for Westwood, halfway through the first.

Junior Molly Crummet was a strong offensive force, keeping the ball in Westwood's possession. Senior Captain Hannah Calawa was on top of the ball through the attacking zone, scoring Westwood’s second goal with just over seven minutes left in the game. Chilangwa shut down more scoring attempts from Dedham, while Westwood put up their own shots on goal. Westwood utilized well-timed substitutions and great communication to win. The Wolverines fought hard the entire game and earned their two-goal win.

The Westwood Wolverines ended the season with a hard-fought shutout, advancing their overall standings to 11-6-3. This match-up against Dedham closed out the regular season for them, but they did advance to the playoffs. They have begun paying for the Division 2 State Championship, and the playoff schedule is available on the MIAA website.
