Following consecutive victories over Bellingham (7-2) on Wednesday and Worcester/Leicester (2-0) on Saturday, the Dover-Sherborn High School varsity boys hockey team has improved to 9-7 on the season and is in prime shape to earn a spot in the state tournament with four games remaining in the regular season.
The Raiders saw a complete team effort on Wednesday night against Bellingham, with senior forwards Joe Paolatto and Kelvin Donoghue combining for six points on the night between the two (two goals, four assists).DS jumped out to a big 4-0 lead before Bellingham cut into the lead at 4-1. The Raiders bounced back with three straight goals to extend the lead to six before holding on for the 7-1 victory.
DS carried their momentum from the win over Bellingham on Wednesday into Saturday’s senior night contest with Worcester/Leicester. In a perfect set of circumstances, the Raiders were led by a pair of seniors on their senior night, as Joe Paolatto netted two goals and goaltender Owen Webb (22 saves) got the shutout to propel DS to their second consecutive victory.
Paolatto’s first goal was a beauty as he flew up the middle and split the defense on a mini-breakaway before firing a shot top shelf to give DS the lead midway through the period. Paolatto would later convert again off of a net-mouth scramble to extend the lead to two and seal the win for the Raiders.
At the time of print, the Raiders will look to keep the winning streak alive when they host Ashland on February 8, before traveling to Holliston on February 11.
