The Dover-Sherborn boys’ track team is off to the best start in the program’s history with three wins up until this point, and coach Maura Bennett is excited at the potential of what her team can continue to accomplish this season.
“The TVL’s will be exciting to watch as well as states,” Bennett said. “We will continue to improve.”
So far this season the Raider athletes have done nothing but improve in addition to excelling in their events.
The team is led by three captains: Justin Seymour (55 dash and 55 hurdles), Chris Crosby (1000, mile and 4x400 relay) and John Hargreaves (55, 300, shot put and 4x400 relay). Seymour has qualified for states in both his events, while Crosby and Hargreaves have qualified for states in their relay.
“Chris had an amazing cross-country season and is just continuing to improve,” Bennett said. “He has had an amazing indoor track season running his best times in all of his events. He came within a second of the mile record which I believe he will break at one of the upcoming meets.”
The captains aren’t the only standouts for the Raiders. Sophomore Erik Linden is having a great season in the 1000 and has qualified for states.
Brooks Walsh, just a freshman, is one the team’s top 300 and 55 runners. He is also on the 4x200 relay team that has qualified for states.
Scott Sirri is a freshman 2-miler and Sean Dougherty, who is a junior, also has excelled at the 2-mile. Bennett said both are very hard workers.
Nathan Brace has broken the school record in the high jump and now has reached a personal best of 5-8.
Several athletes will compete this Saturday at the Coaches Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center, where the Raiders will be well-represented and looking to come away with some wins in their events.
