Medfield boys’ lacrosse displayed a dominant performance against the Wellesley Raiders on Tuesday, April 16. Led by Tim Collins, who recorded seven goals and two assists, and Braedon Sutton, who contributed four goals and one assist, the Warriors secured a decisive victory with a final score of 14-5. Matt George added two goals to the tally, while Gavin Marmai chipped in with one, solidifying Medfield's impressive 14-5 finish.

The evening commenced with John Olenik securing the faceoff, initiating the spirited competition. Matt George swiftly found the net for Medfield at the 11:28 mark of the quarter, setting the tone for the game. Despite Wellesley's efforts to pressure Medfield and maintain possession in their zone, Medfield's goalie Chase Coughlin delivered a standout performance, thwarting the Raiders with a series of rapid saves. Medfield capitalized on their offensive opportunities, scoring four goals in the quarter to establish a comfortable lead early in the game.

In the second quarter, the Medfield boys focused more on defensive play, spending a significant portion of the period guarding their own net. Despite this defensive emphasis, Medfield managed to score only two goals in the quarter. However, the Warriors' defense proved formidable, allowing Wellesley to score just one goal in return.

Medfield surged past Wellesley's defensive efforts in the third period, shifting their strategy to exploit openings and draw Wellesley's defenders out of position. This adjustment led to a burst of offensive productivity for the Warriors, who netted four goals in both the third and fourth quarters. Their effectiveness was highlighted by a two-minute man-up opportunity in the fourth quarter, during which Braedon Sutton capitalized with two consecutive goals.

Despite Medfield's commanding 12-point lead and the activation of running time on the clock, Wellesley continued to press forward, striving to narrow the deficit late into the fourth quarter. The Raiders managed to add three more points to their score, including a last-second goal as the final buzzer sounded. Ultimately, Medfield concluded the game with a 14-5 victory, bringing their overall record to 4-1 and maintaining a perfect 3-0 record in the Tri-Valley League.

“We started fast, we focused in practice the last two days starting fast, playing on our front foot, attacking as opposed to testing and seeing what was going on… the guys really attacked from the whistle and set the tone for the game, so I'm glad to see that,” said Coach Isaf.

The boys will play at Norton High on Friday, April 26, the game is set for 6 PM.
