Renate Spiess (Marsland)

was born on December 15, 1946 in Germany to Herbert and Elfriede Marsland. They moved to Saxonville, MA where she grew up.

Renate dedicated most of her life supporting the Doberman Rescue League where she focused on placing rescued Doberman’s into safe and loving homes. Renate’s greatest joy was spending time with her dogs, and fostering shelter animals, and most recently, loving her adorable cat Perry. She was a longtime supporter of the North Attleboro Animal Shelter. A devoted admirer of the past, Renate had a deep appreciation for antiques that reflected her taste and love for old things and history. She traveled and collected the most unique items; each piece held a special place in her heart, and she took great joy in refurbishing old items to their glory.

Renate is survived by her ex-husband Richard Spiess and his wife Lee Ann of Maine; her Daughter Julie Urquhart of Franklin; three Grandchildren Sara Urquhart of Boston, Jessica Urquhart of Uxbridge, and Andrew Urquhart of Franklin; her Son Jason Spiess and his wife Laurene of Millis; her Sisters Irene Wade and her husband Alan and their children, Tanya Brunning and her husband Michael of Kansas and Graham Wade of Iowa; Dorothy Casey of Maine and her children, Jennifer Young and her husband Scott of Douglas, and Kelly Platt and her husband Jeffrey of Worcester; and her loving and devoted friend Anthony Perry of North Attleboro.

Private Services will be held. Donations can be made in her name to the North Attleboro Animal Shelter.
