On Christmas Eve, 2025, the Needham community was struck by tragedy when a four-alarm fire broke out on Woodworth Road. Firefighters from the Needham Fire Department and mutual aid departments battled heavy fire and smoke in challenging conditions.

Tragically, the fire claimed the life of 21-year-old Kayla Renee Corrigan. Two other occupants were able to escape the home, which was destroyed along with the family's belongings.

The Needham Fire Department, Needham Police Department, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal's office, and the Norfolk District Attorney's Office are investigating the origin and cause of the fire.

In the aftermath, the community rallied to support the grieving Corrigan family. A verified GoFundMe was established to help cover funeral expenses, temporary housing, and basic necessities. Additionally, the Needham Police Department set up a short-term donation fund through the NPWDFoundation Venmo account, which raised over $15,000 from more than 200 donors in 24 hours. The police department has since stopped accepting monetary donations through that account, having surpassed its goal, and is now encouraging supporters to donate gift cards to local businesses or contribute directly to the GoFundMe.

Local 1706 of the Needham Fire Department expressed its deepest condolences to the family and gratitude for the overwhelming community support, stating the family and first responders remain in their thoughts during the holiday season.
