Resilience, change, and fearlessness. These are words that are signified to the Class of 2023. Families, friends, and faculty came together on Monday, June 5th to celebrate Needham’s Class of 2023. After having to wait another day to receive their diplomas, the young graduates had been long anticipating the excitement of graduation. Despite a few bursts of rain, their happiness shone throughout the entirety of commencement to brighten up the special occasion.

With talented student speakers, classmates addressed the Needham student body and reflected on moments when the class persevered throughout a global pandemic, or how they came together to rally side by side for social just issues, and even navigating the potholes in the front parking lot. These students reflected on the changes they had to endure throughout the past four- years and showcased their resilience as it prepared them to step out into the world whether to begin the workforce or to enter higher education come next fall. Commencement was a moment to stop and take a breath of fresh air amidst their busy lives and to celebrate their success with a diploma. It was a moment to celebrate every assignment they turned in or to celebrate every check off the long list of their daily agenda, graduation was a moment for these students to celebrate being right there in the moment even when they thought they couldn’t do it.

Needham High School Principal Aaron Sicotte addressed the Class of 2023 and left them with a speech reminding them to take every opportunity that comes their way. To stop waiting and begin their adventure of life.“Stop waiting and seize the opportunities you have… there is a large difference between patience, and putting your life on hold,” said Sicotte.

The Needham Class of 2023 is a special group of students who have learned how to persevere and have fun, despite the challenges they face. Hometown Weekly wishes the best for each graduate as they celebrate their success and continue into their next chapter.
