Beginning on Wednesday April 6, the Needham Science Center, based at Newman Elementary School, 1155 Central Ave., will be offering two eight-week spring courses for young students.
The “ABC Storycraft for Pre-Schoolers” program will run weekly on Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Newman and Needham High librarian Michele Marram will run the program, which is intended for ages 2-6 with an adult and will feature activities that “teach and reinforce the ABCs.”
Children and parents will join together to sing songs, read books, do crafts, and more. The program is focused on “fostering early literacy skills” as well as developing “fine motor coordination.”
“Eco-Adventures” is for students in grades 1-3 who like to get a little dirty and explore the outside world. The activities will take place at the newly renovated Eastman Conservation Area. The program runs on Wednesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. and will be led by Judy Campbell of www.natureknowledgeforkids.com.
Students will play games and do crafts to increase their understanding and interest in environmental issues.
The programs will meet in the discovery room of the Needham Science Center, which is located at the school’s playground entrance.
The cost of the eight-week session of “ABC Storycraft” is $130 per adult/child pair and “Eco-Adventure” is $200 per child. Registration is now open and space is limited for both programs.
