Mosquitos test positive for West Nile virus

On Wednesday, August 5, the Needham Public Health Department notified residents that mosquitos found in Needham tested positive for West Nile virus. As a result, the risk level for West Nile virus has been raised to moderate.

Residents should take extra precaution to protect themselves from mosquitos. Residents are advised to use insect repellent containing DEET and other ingredient to repel mosquitos. Outdoor time at dusk and dawn should be limited. Residents should avoid areas that have high mosquito populations, such as wetlands. All standing water from around homes should be removed to prevent mosquitos from breeding.

Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Needham Public Health department at (781-455-7940).
