The $2500 Melick Foundation Scholarship is available to any graduating Needham High School student or other Needham resident who is a graduating student at another high school. It is awarded to a student who has unselfishly engaged in civic activities and has helped friends, neighbors, or strangers as a volunteer in the community.
The Melick Foundation was established in 1997 to honor an extraordinary community leader, Needham’s longtime Town Moderator, Richard Patton Melick. In his name, the Foundation continues to support special community projects, recognize outstanding volunteers, and promote good citizenship and active participation in democracy.
Scholarship applications are available through high school guidance offices and online at www.melickfoundation.com. Applications must be submitted to The Melick Foundation (P.O. Box 920101, Needham, MA 02492) by April 14, 2017. The recipient will be decided upon in early May and acknowledged at the annual Melick Awards Reception on May 8.
The Melick Foundation Board of Directors will select the scholarship recipient. Decisions will be made based on a combination of the student’s accomplishments, essay, letter of recommendation, and application’s completeness. Financial need is not a consideration, but the student is required to be enrolling in college.
