Families and friends gathered together on Saturday, December 16th at the Rosemary
Recreation Complex (RRC) to partake in a Gingerbread House Decorating Activity. This event, run by Needham Parks and Recreation, welcomed all those Needhamites who wanted to create some festive holiday magic!
There were smiles all around as everyone sat down to decorate their very own gingerbread houses. To make sure there was enough space for all attendees, Needham Parks & Rec. allotted four different time slots throughout the day, in forty five minute increments. If any of the little ones wanted to decorate more than one house, they were available for purchase.
To make things even easier for families and their little ones, Needham Parks and Recreation pre-built all the gingerbread houses so all that had to be done was some creative decorating! There were an abundance of tasty decorations to choose from, including frosting, M&Ms, candy canes, pretzels, mints, caramels, twizzlers, sour candy ropes and more.
Each of the houses created were incredibly unique and stunning to look at. It was easy to see just how much joy decorating each gingerbread house brought to everyone involved.
Among the volunteers helping run this decorating session was the Director of Needham Parks and Recreation Stacey Mulroy. When talking with her about this super fun event, she mentioned, “Leading up to this event, we had people register online for which time slot and how many houses they wanted. We pre-build all of the houses as you can see because it just makes it so much easier on the parents. Everyone gets to come and decorate for forty five minutes, using whichever kind of candy and sweets that they want. We also do all of the cleanup which is really the most important part for the parents. We got some amazing staff and volunteers helping out throughout the day and we couldn’t be more grateful for them. We really love doing these types of events and bringing the community together, especially for the holiday season.”
All of the gingerbread houses were available to decorate and pick up that day. If anyone wanted some gingerbread houses but could not make it on Saturday, they were also available for pickup later on the following week.
