On Saturday, December 14, the Dover Town Library (DTL) held their third and final Gingerbread Hose Decorating session for children. This event occurs annually, offering multiple sessions for families with children of all ages. The multiple sessions are necessary due to the sheer popularity of event. Even during this last session, the community room was packed with families as registration was full.
The sessions took place on Tuesday, December 10, Thursday, December 12, both occurring at 3:30pm and the final session on Saturday at 11am. Each session was an hour long, giving the children and their families the perfect amount of time to craft each gingerbread house to their liking.
As the event brings children of all ages to participate in this event, teens and adults also looked to participate in this fun holiday themed workshop. So this year, for the first time the DTL opened two sessions of Gingerbread House decorating for ages 16+ on Saturday, December 21st, right before the holidays. These two sessions had full registration as well, as teens and adults alike signed up to participate.
The DTL provided each child with a milk carton, to form the gingerbread house around, graham crackers, icing, and candy, such as Hershey kisses, twizzlers, and candy canes. Some children used each and every piece to create their perfect house, while others nibbled on different pieces of candy while they crafted their festive houses. Parents helped little ones place the pieces of the home together, demonstrated on how to squeeze the frosting, and offered thoughtful suggestions on candy placement.
Nancy, the children’s librarian, ventured around the room offering assistance to each child and complemented their homes.
Each child left the library with their own perfectly crafted gingerbread house and a smile on their faces. It is safe to say that children of all ages will eagerly await the return of this event next holiday season.
