More than forty local artists will open their doors for Needham Open Studios during the weekend of May 5-6; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Visitors to this free event can meet artists, tour studios, and browse and purchase original artwork at fifteen locations throughout the town. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the event will showcase nationally recognized artists as well as accomplished and emerging artists working in an array of media and styles; from painting, drawing, printmaking, photography to ceramics, jewelry, mosaics, textiles, and film and animation.
Two participating artists this year include silk painter Nicole Donson and jewelry designer Jennifer Yogel of Local Color Jewelry. Both will show their work at Gorse Mill Studios on 31 Thorpe Road. Now participating for her eighth year, Yogel creates hand-woven jewelry of precious metals, pearls and gemstones and sells her work at juried art shows and many prominent galleries in Massachusetts. She will be demonstrating the art of Viking knitting during the event.
Donson has been painting on silk with dyes for more than fifteen years and sells her work at juried art and craft festivals and galleries. She creates one of a kind hand painted scarves, garments and fine art as well as Nuno felted scarves. Donson also runs an art and craft education program in her studio for children and adults called Nicole’s Art Spot, offering a wide range of classes with a specialty in silk painting, sewing and Nuno felting.
