Needham natives and mother-daughter duo, Karen and Katherine O'Malley, are calling on friends and neighbors in Needham to join them on Sunday, October 25th at the Greater Boston Walk to End Alzheimer's. The O'Malleys serve on the Walk's planning committee, reaching out to the community all year long.
Over seven million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer's and about 12 million others serve as their caregivers. While there is currently no cure for this devastating disease, there are two Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved treatments to slow the progression of cognitive decline in patients in the early stage of Alzheimer's. What's more, four new FDA-approved blood tests for Alzheimer's are now available for people experiencing symptoms, making diagnosis and treatment more accessible, less invasive, and less expensive.
This is an exciting time for the field of Alzheimer's and dementia research and policy, and the O'Malleys are looking forward to joining other Needhamites at the Walk on October 25th. The Walk takes place at DCR Richard McKinnon Park (formerly North Point Park) in Cambridge, across from the Museum of Science. Parking is free at the nearby Cambridgeside Galleria. Bring your friends, bring your dog, and bring your purple and join the fight to end Alzheimer's and all dementia. You can find more details about the Walk here: https://act.alz.org
