On February 7th, Raiders’ girls’ hockey played a very eventful game with some controversial calls on their senior night. The Raiders (4–11–2) were playing the Framingham Flyers (7–7–4) for the second time this season after being beaten by them 2–3 last month. Before the game began, the Raiders recognized their seniors and the rink was decorated with posters taped to the glass and banners hanging up on the walls.

The Raiders started out strong with a goal by freshman forward Addie Foster, assisted by senior Caitlin Hamburger. Four minutes later, Hamburger scored her own goal, assisted by captains and fellow seniors Charlotte McDonough and Mia Prall. Not long after, however, the Flyers scored their first goal and brought the score up to 2–1. In net, senior Neva ten-Brinke made two saves in a row. Unfortunately, Framingham tied things up with 4.7 seconds left, which was a tough end to the first period.
Junior Kate Morris took the net to begin the second period, and Emma Murphy had a good shot and Prall made a steal on what would have been a breakaway for the Flyers. Morris made some great saves in the last few minutes of the period.

With just seconds left in the period, senior defender Margaret Redgate took a shot from far out and it went in as the buzzer went off. The fans were thrilled and the team went over to high-five the bench. However, the wind was taken out of their sails when the refs called the goal back, and the Raiders went to the locker room with bad news once again. While they were still in the locker room, the refs continued to review the call, and in the end decided that the puck did make it into the goal before time ran out, resulting in sudden cheering from the stands when they saw the scoreboard change to 3–3.

Not quite halfway into the third period, Framingham was back in the lead after scoring again. Things got a little bit scrappy as the game was nearing an end. But with 19 seconds left in the game, a scramble in front of the net resulted in a goal for the Raiders, tying the score again. The refs called this goal back as well, on claims of goalie interference, but this time did not undo their decision. It was a frustrating loss for the Raiders, but certainly an exciting game.
Congratulations on a good game and season to seniors Maddie McGahn, Caitlin Hamburger, Charlotte McDonough, Neva ten-Brinke, Margaret Redgate, Mia Prall, Campbell Ricker, Mary Amico, and Eliza Hamlin!
