The tennis courts at Metacomet Park have been completely resurfaced over the past three weeks. The courts officially re-opened for play on Friday.
The work, completed by East Coast Sealcoating, including repair of all the cracks around the playing surface and the perimeter of the courts. After the cracks were filled, they were grinded down to be level with the rest of the court, then repaired again to fix any lingering defects. A fresh coat of paint – stadium blue on the playing surface and a forest green around the perimeter – was completed by July 19.
“We are excited to have this major project done,” said Medfield Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Ryder. “The playing surface had been deteriorating over a number of years to the point that they were unsafe and unplayable. This work is a major upgrade for the courts, and it will be enjoyed by all Medfield residents and benefit the varsity and junior varsity teams at the high school.”
The courts are open to the public seven days a week. The Parks and Recreation Department does run two more weeks of summer junior tennis lessons as well as junior and adult tennis lessons in the fall. Registration for those programs can be found at www.medfieldrec.com.
