The morning of Thursday, September 8 was a busy one for children’s librarian Kim Tolson. It featured back-to-back-to-back children’s programs, which culminated in Preschool Page Turners at 11:30 a.m. The preschoolers listened to a classic tale, “The Tortoise and the Hare.” After the story, the 3-5 year-olds listened to a song about moving fast and moving slow while alternately waving scarves fast and slowly to reinforce the concept of speed through a fun interactive activity.
“The programs aren’t only for the kids, but also to help the parents learn how to teach early literacy skills more effectively,” said Tolson. Earlier in the morning, the library hosted similar programs, the earliest of which was for kids under 2 years old, and the middle program for toddlers aged 2-3. Wednesdays and Thursdays are surely busy mornings with these programs going on, but the educational value provided makes the effort worthwhile.
Going into the fall, the library will be offering Minecraft and technology programs starting later in September. A chess club will also be beginning next week, and some slots are still open for registration. Although kids are back in school this month, the Medfield library offers extracurricular programs year-round, providing great supplements to their regular education.
