Pandemic forces Medfield Memorial Day changes

The Medfield Memorial Day Co-Chairs, Frank Iafolla and Michelle Doucette, have announced that this year’s 2020 Memorial Day parade, ceremonies at Baxter Park and march to Vine Lake Cemetery have been cancelled.

However, Memorial Day is a day on which those who died in active military service are remembered. Therefore, the Memorial Day Committee is announcing that at noon on Monday, May 25, the four Medfield churches - First Baptist, First Parish Unitarian Universalist, United Church of Christ and St. Edward the Confessor, along with the Lee Chapel at the former Medfield State Hospital, will ring their church bells for one minute.

This observance will replace the usual ceremonies. Townspeople are asked to pause and listen to the sounds of the church bells and then when they conclude, acknowledge this day by showing a moment of silence and reflection.

“We will remember and thank those who are no longer with us for defending the freedom we have today, so please, let's all take a few minutes together (while apart) to remember at noon on Monday,” said Iafolla and Doucette.
