Families and friends gathered at Medfield High School on Sunday, November 19th, as The Cub Scouts of Medfield Pack 113 hosted their second annual pancake breakfast. Everyone filed into the school cafeteria to enjoy some fluffy pancakes, savory sausages, and crispy bacon, of course with some maple syrup on the side.
One of the Cub Scout’s grandparents works for the McDonald’s franchise and was able to donate all of the sausages, bacon and maple syrup right from McDonalds! Everyone raved at how delicious everything was, and to wash it all down, water, coffee and orange juice were also served.
After the kiddos enjoyed their delicious breakfast, they were welcome to head towards the back of the cafeteria for some fun games like jenga and coloring. If they still had some more energy to exert, the gymnasium was also open where they could run around and play. As an added bonus, the Medfield Fire Department stopped by with a fire truck for all to come and see.
Mike Pastore has been organizing this event for the past two years. When discussing with him about why Pack 113 does this pancake breakfast, he explained, “The Cub Scouts typically sell popcorn, and last year we decided that all of the sales kind of moved online so the Cubs weren’t really getting much out of it. So we had to think of something else we could do to raise some money. So last year we decided to do a pancake breakfast and this would be our second one. The Medfield High School generously allowed us to use their space, they have always been really great to us. We also have some different sponsors as well. We’ve got the kids here in their uniforms, they help with setup and cleanup and if they see anyone eating alone, they will go and sit with them. It has always been a great time and our biggest fundraiser every year. We have about seventy Cub Scouts and we really rely on donations for a lot of what we do. We also just really wanted to make it a community event since The Cub Scouts is a big part of the Medfield community.”
Cub Master Greg Brown was also in attendance, checking people into the event. He too was thrilled at the turnout of this event and loves to be a part of it every year. It was another great success with this pancake breakfast and many hope it continues to return!
