Character.org has named Montrose School as a National School of Character. This award recognizes Montrose’s integrated and purposeful approach to character education.

Founded in 1993, Character.org, is a national nonprofit based in Washington, DC. The mission of the organization is to provide leadership and advocacy for character worldwide through its 11 Principles. Character.org’s National Leadership Council members include Colin Powell, Barbara Bush and Peter Lynch.

“We are delighted to be recognized for these efforts on a national level,” said Head of School Dr. Karen Bohlin. “Personal character development has been at the heart of Montrose School’s mission since our founding in 1979.”

Montrose was first recognized and held up as a model nationally in 1999, as one of the first ten National Schools of Character in the country.
