Michael McCarthy announces 30th Annual Coat Drive

Medfield High School 10th grade student Michael McCarthy is announcing the start of his annual coat drive. He has teamed up again with Coats for Kids and Families and Anton’s Cleaners to collect winter coat donations. Winter coats for both children and adults are gladly accepted.

The goal of Coats for Kids and Families is to collect, clean, and distribute coats locally to those in need. The foundation started in 1995 and has collected over 1.2 million coats throughout the years, keeping those in need warm during the winter weather.

Those with coats they have outgrown, or no longer need, are asked to donate them to this wonderful cause. Coats can be dropped off in 4 places. Collection boxes are located in the lobby at Medfield High School, in the vestibule at the Medfield Public Library, and in the hall at St. Edward Parish. Coats can also be dropped off at 11 Knollwood Rd, from 7am-9pm. Donations will gratefully be accepted until January 6th.

This is an amazing opportunity to help those in need. Over the last few years the generous residents of Medfield have donated over 900 coats. “We hope to collect and distribute many warm coats to families again this year,” McCarthy said.

As an incentive to donate as many coats as possible the sponsors are giving away six rewards. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place rewards will be given to the school that collects the most coats overall.

Rewards will also be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place to the school that collects the most coats per capita. This year the 1st place prize for each of the leading schools is $2,000 to their school programs. Said McCarthy, “Not only is this an excellent opportunity to help those in need of a warm coat, it also offers a chance for a great reward for our schools.”

McCarthy hopes that Medfield residents will be inspired to donate their extra coats to those in need and possibly earn a great reward for the Medfield Public Schools. Michael thanks the community for their continued support and looks forward to another successful coat drive this year.
