A pair of Medfield High students have been selected to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City this weekend as part of the 2016 High School Honors Performance Series.
Senior Emilio Luna and junior Amanda Xu have both been named finalists and will perform with music students from around the world in this prestigious concert and at this historic venue.
Medfield High orchestra director Brenna Evans nominated the students, who had to submit an audio recording, a performance biography, and a participation fee, according to a press release from the Medfield Music Association.
Luna and Xu are among 750 finalists chosen from across 49 states and countries ranging from Canada to China to the United Arab Emirates. Luna will perform on violin in the Honors String Orchestra and Xu will be on viola in the Honors Symphony Orchestra.
The concerts will run from Thursday, Feb. 4 - Monday, Feb. 8. The students will spend the five days in rehearsals with other students and guest musicians, while enjoying the sights and taking in a Broadway show.
“It’s amazing to think we’ll be on the same stage where famous people like Tchaikovsky and Toscanini conducted,” said Luna in the press release.
Xu added, “I can’t wait to meet so many students from around the world – I’m really excited about being in New York.”
