Medfield Green Month Returns

[ccfic caption-text format="plaintext"]

The coming of May marks the spring edition of Medfield Green Month at the Transfer Station. This community recycling event is a collaboration between Medfield Green and the Town of Medfield. MEMO (Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization) is sponsoring the event.

Every Saturday in May from 9-1, there will be a collection of items to be donated, reused or recycled. The bright green flier in this week’s newspaper is a quick, perfect reminder of each week’s collection. Flip it over for details regarding each charity and the pilot food composting program.

Electronics will be collected on May 7, and there is also a Sports Swap going on at the Wheelock Circle from 9-12 - a perfect opportunity to recycle an old air conditioner or outgrown sports equipment.

A week later, on May 14, the town will be collecting Styrofoam at the Transfer Station. The Girl Scouts will also be in attendance to collect cans and bottles.

On May 21, reusable building supplies will be collected (see back of flier for all of the details).

On May 28, the final collection will be held for cleaned and laundered clothing, shoes and textiles (including ripped and stained fabrics). Donations will be reused as clothing or recycled into rags/carpet padding.

Thanks to a grant that has funded a permanent container at the Transfer Station, mattresses can now be recycled at any time.

The swap area will have a delayed opening in May. The exact date is not known at the time of printing.

A pilot food composting program is this year’s newest addition. Members of the Transfer Station and Recycling Committee have been working hard to bring this program to Medfield, and will be on hand every Saturday in May to answer your questions and help get you started. This is also thanks to a grant from the Department of Environmental Protection. For $15, you can purchase a starter kit including a 3.5-gallon pail with an animal and odor proof lid, a kitchen scrap bucket, and a roll of 25 biodegradable liners. You do not need to purchase a kit in order to participate. More info can be found at http://town.medfield.net

Transfer Station stickers are required and can be purchased at the DPW at the Town Garage for $50 for 2 years.

Green Month is a perfect opportunity for residents to do some spring cleaning and get rid of their unwanted items without filling up a bunch of trash bags. Any questions regarding Medfield Green Month can be directed to [email protected]
