A bakers dozen rising Kindergarteners showed up at the Pfaff Center for a two-day program on Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1. The class, named K is for Kindergarten, was designed to give the kids a sneak peak of what kindergarten will be like. From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the kindergarteners did crafts, alphabet and counting activities, and learned from former teacher Ana Conneely.
“The program is a little sneak peek of fun learning related to kindergarten,” said Conneely. “We’re just doing fun activities like they’ll do in kindergarten. We did rainbows and made wishing stones, so if they’re nervous about going to school, they can rub their wishing stones. We have a little classroom set up so they can play school, and we are making monster pouches so they can put their school supplies inside them.”
The two-day program led by the former teacher comes just in time for the school year and provides a fun way to warm up for the incoming kindergarteners. Their school year will start on Wednesday, September 7.
Ana Conneely, who now offers a variety of enrichment programs at the Pfaff Center, will be around in the fall to provide lessons in other fields, as well. A crotchet club is coming up for ages 8-12. For school days off, such as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, she will be leading a sharpie tie-dye class, which will be far less messy than traditional tie-dye and can be done at home. For Halloween, she will be at the head of a pumpkin-decorating program as well.
With happy future kindergarteners streaming out of the lessons at 12:30, it is safe to say the future programs are sure to be a success.
